2025 September’s Special Open Lecture: “Syria Today as Seen from the Ground — Return and the Path to Reconstruction”

After the fall of the former regime at the end of 2024, a transition to a new government began. While calls for stability are growing, the situation is not without continuing disorder. Even so, many refugees abroad have begun to return home with a deep longing for their homeland, taking steps forward with hope and expectation despite the difficulties. Each act of return itself is a powerful declaration of their determination to rebuild their country.
In this Special Open Cultural Lecture, we once again welcome Dr. Almansour Ahmad, a Japanese-Syrian scholar, following his lecture in February. Having visited Syria this August, he will provide an up-to-date report on Syria’s “present” toward reconstruction, and together we will reflect on the role required of the international community, including Japan.
We warmly invite you to join us.
