2025 February’s Special Open Lecture: “Syria’s Past, Present, and Future—Reconstruction and the Role Required of the International Community”

In 2011, the Syrian Civil War began, triggered by the wave of democratization movements across the Middle East. Referred to as “the greatest humanitarian crisis of this century,” the conflict has claimed countless lives and disrupted livelihoods. Now, as of December 8, 2024, the collapse of the former regime signals the possibility of an end to this prolonged struggle. Reflecting on the impacts of the war and charting a path toward the future is not only vital for those directly affected but also a crucial task for the international community.

In this special open cultural lecture, we welcome Dr. Ahmad AlMansour, a Syrian scholar and visiting lecturer at Keio University. He will share insights on Syria’s past and present, the visions Syrians hold for their country’s future, and the role required of the international community in the nation’s reconstruction.
