2025 April’s Special Open Lecture:”Access to Finance for Muslims in Japan”
The number of Muslims living in Japan has been steadily increasing, with estimates suggesting a population of around 300,000. In recent years, more stores have begun offering halal food, reflecting growing awareness of Muslim lifestyles. However, financial services that comply with Islamic principles—Islamic finance—are still largely unavailable in Japan. As a result, many Muslims face difficulties in everyday situations such as purchasing homes or obtaining insurance.
But what exactly is Islamic finance? Why is it so difficult to implement in Japan? And what can be done to improve access to financial services for Muslims living here?
In this lecture, we will explore these questions together, drawing on findings from a survey conducted in 2024–2025.
We’re looking forward to your participation.
